The Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) was held their first of series of Regional Consultations with stakeholders on the Review of the Term of Reference of the AICHR on 28-29 April 2014 in The Caraka Building-The Center of Education and Training of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jakarta.
The meeting was attended by Representative of AICHR of ASEAN Member States, ACWC, ASLOM-Indonesia, ASEAN Foundation, etc. ASLOM Indonesia was represented by Ms. Erna Priliasari from The National Law Development Agency. In her remarks she underline that ASLOM is fully aware of the significant importance of human rights impacts and implication of the ASEAN Community Blueprint. Furthermore she stressed that the priority in ASLOM is to be able to integrate and incorporate the values of human rights in the works of ASLOM.
On the way forward discussion she gave some inputs regarding the review of the Term of Reference of the AICHR such as:
1) to encourage all asean member states to ratify international agreement on human rights, like: migrant worker.
2) insert human right in impact asssesment on legislative process.
3) establish standart guidelines for corrections.
4)to promote understanding of how addressing human rights risks and impacts can help build business success.
The Inputs from the series of consultations will contribute to the set of recommendations the AICHR will submit to the Foreign Ministers in August 2014.
