Ministry of Law and Human Rights Breaks MURI Record

Jakarta, 28/1/2016-NLDA - Since the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) came into force on December 31, 2015, Indonesia has had to accelerate its preparation to face the era of free trade in ASEAN. The question of readiness is not relevant anymore. In fact, Indonesia is a pioneer of ASEAN.

The presence of AEC will influence the free flow of goods, services and investment as well as the free flow of capital and skills. For those countries that have a highly-qualified well-educated workforce, AEC will be an opportunity to expand their workforce to other countries.

Although the AEC is a very important issue, some Indonesian students and graduates are unaware of AEC issues. As a result, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has the task of assisting the President in performing duties relating to legal affairs and human rights initiatives to promote AEC. This activity is also to foster public awareness regarding AEC issues to have them taken more seriously.

Today, January, 28,  2016, the legal awareness campaign in five hundred and forty-seven (547) regencies/cities in thirty-four (34) provinces and twenty (20) high schools/vocational schools is being held simultaneously. The event was officially opened at Graha Pengayoman by the Head of the National Law Development Agency. In her remarks, she stated that she expects students to volunteer to become legal smart students who will actively participate in supporting the Ministry of Law and Human Rights program and activities and persuade people not to violate the law. The event was closed with a reading of the declaration of the volunteer legal smart representatives from SMA 78 Jakarta.

At the event, Ministry of Law and Human Rights broke national records, as it succeeded in conducting Legal Awareness Campaigns simultaneously recording the largest audience ever. The record was validated by the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI). – (Humas, BPHN)
