Asean Regional Workshop on The Promulgation of Laws and Regulations of Asean Member States

National Law Development and Planning Center was held ASEAN REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON THE PROMULGATION OF LAWS AND REGULATIONS OF ASEAN MEMBER STATES: A COMPARATIVE STUDY on 23-24 April 2014 in Grand Sahid Hotel, Jakarta. The Workshop was attended by participants from ASEAN Member States who are familiar with the law making process as well as the ratification process of international agreements in their country. Mr. Andreas List, a Representative from the European Union to Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and ASEAN, Mr. James Sephard, A representative from Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ("OECD"), Dr. Hao Duy Phan Center for International Law ("CIL"), National University of Singapore, Dr. Iur. Damos Dumoli, Representative from Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Huala Adolf, S.H., L.LM., Ph.D. lecturer from Padjajaran University, Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana, S.H., L.LM., Ph.D lecturer from University of Indonesia served as speakers at the Workshop.

In this workshop Dr. Wicipto Setiadi, S.H., M.H, Head of National Law Development Agency delivered the welcoming remarks. In his Opening Remarks, Dr. Wicipto Setiadi stressed the importance of the work of the ASEAN Regional Workshop on The Promulgation of Laws and Regulations as ASLOM as a comparative study of ASEAN Member States. The Workshop was opened by H.E. DR. AKP Mochtan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Corporate Affairs. In his keynote speech on the rule of law in a people oriented ASEAN, DSG Mochtan added that this Workshop will play an important role to support ASLOM work on strengthening legal cooperation and developing various model laws in ASEAN. These include the possible harmonisation of laws and regulations in ASEAN, the importance of the treaty making process in the conclusion of ASEAN agreements and the role of regional or international organisations in harmonising Member States’ laws. He expressed that such topics will contribute to ASEAN’s development as a rules-based organisation and the ASEAN Community, promoting the rule of law for the benefit of the people of ASEAN.
